Do you realize how special you are?
I’ll bet not. You see, being the humble person that you are – doing the good in the world that you want to do – that is your focus: outward. Helpful. Interested. Giving.
Even though I help my clients see their specialness, I still fall into the same thing that they do: I don’t realize how special I really am.
Here’s where the short story begins:
I finally made a commitment to myself to clean out my attic storage. There are things I’ve been carrying with me that I really don’t need anymore. PLUS, boxes-o-stuff that I didn’t even remember what was inside.
I was sorting through a HUGE bin of old pictures (remember the day when you’d drop the roll off at the drugstore, order double prints, then go back in a week and pick them up?).
I came across some keepsake items, one of which was a baseball. So I posted this on my personal Facebook page:
“In 1976, I was the first girl to play in our community park’s baseball league.
Thanks to my parents advocating for me, the league let me play. But they put me one level down than my 10 year age called for: in the peewee’s (one level above t-ball).
My dad bought me a red glove. The boys on the opposing teams teased me incessantly.
I played shortstop – and one game I caught the game-winning out and was awarded the game ball.
I still have it! Both the ball AND the perseverance and resilience.
Cleaning out my attic storage today. Should I keep the ball?”
You. would. not. believe. the responses!
I really didn’t see what the big deal was in my story. But as I saw the overwhelming comments of OF COURSE KEEP IT and then a few that said AND PUT IT IN A PLEXI BOX ON DISPLAY WHERE YOU CAN SEE IT DAILY.
Wow. What a wake up call to my specialness! I was just going through life doing what I do.
But my FB friends saw the real specialness behind that story.

So, I ask you again, << Test First Name >>, do you realize how special you are?
You may not think so, but you are. You just don’t see yourself as others see you.
This week I challenge you to bring a story of your past to your friends, family, or FB page. See what others say. I think you’ll get a glimpse into the true specialness that you be.
Enjoy your special week!
